Practice management
One workspace for the day-to-day running of a practice: a dashboard, tasks, a calendar and the people who do the work.
- A role-aware dashboard of matters, deadlines, tasks and recent activity, limited to what that person is allowed to see.
- Tasks with an owner, a due date, a priority and reminders.
- A calendar for appointments and court appearances. Deadlines are entered by a person, with the source recorded. JURINEZ does not calculate court deadlines from a generic rule.
- Team profiles, offices, departments and permissions, including custom roles. A person cannot grant themselves a higher role.
- Times are stored so a date means the same thing across time zones.
CRM and conflict checks
A record of individual and corporate clients, and a conflict check that searches only inside the same firm.
- Individual and corporate clients, with more than one contact and a role for each contact.
- Intake forms, notes, status, tags and custom fields defined by the firm.
- Search across the firm’s own clients and contacts. Results respect permissions.
- A conflict check lists the prospective client, related parties and adverse parties, then searches that firm’s clients, contacts, matter parties and former clients.
- Where a match sits on a restricted matter, the result can say that a possible conflict exists without revealing the file.
- A lawyer or firm owner records the decision: no conflict, waived, or declined. JURINEZ stores the check. It does not decide whether a conflict exists under any professional conduct rule.
Matters
A single record for every file, from intake through archive.
- Matters linked to one or more clients, with a responsible lawyer and a supporting team.
- A matter number drawn from a pattern the firm configures.
- Categories and statuses the firm can change. Suggested categories include corporate, civil litigation, criminal, family, immigration, real estate, employment, intellectual property, personal injury, estates, commercial contracts and administrative law.
- Parties and adverse parties, which feed the conflict check.
- Important dates, court appearances, internal notes and an activity history.
- Matter-level permissions, including ethical walls that exclude named people, and confidential matters visible only to members.
- A jurisdiction field for country, province or state, and court or tribunal. Procedure is configuration, not a hardcoded rule.
Documents
Matter files with folders, versions and permissions. Sharing with a client is an explicit act.
- Uploads of common office formats, checked by file content as well as by name.
- Folders, classification, tags and an immutable version history.
- Search of document details, and of extracted text, limited to documents the person may open.
- Activity for upload, view, download, share, version, delete and signature.
- Retention settings and archive. Legal hold is part of the design.
- Uploads are planned to be scanned and held back until that scan succeeds. Nothing in a failed or pending state is served.
- Downloads are planned as short-lived links, issued only after a permission check. There are no permanent public links to confidential documents.
AI assistant, with lawyer verification
Summaries, contract review and drafts for people who already have access to the file. A lawyer verifies the result before it goes further.
- Document summaries, contract analysis, clause identification against the firm’s own clause list, document comparison and drafting assistance.
- Matter summaries, and search across documents the requesting person is allowed to open.
- Important dates extracted as suggestions. They do not become calendar entries until a person confirms them.
- Every result is labelled “AI-generated — requires lawyer verification”. It cannot be shared with a client or placed in a final document without an explicit review.
- Citations that cannot be matched to a retrieved source are marked unverified. Unsupported claims are marked as unsupported.
- The assistant is not a legal adviser, and its output is not verified legal advice.
Time and billing
Capture time and prepare an invoice in JURINEZ. Docnez issues the invoice and tracks payment. This is ordinary invoicing, not trust accounting.
- Timers and manual time entries, billable or not, with activity codes and a narrative.
- Rates that can resolve from the matter, the client or the person, in an order the firm configures.
- Expenses with receipts, and a draft invoice built from unbilled time and expenses.
- A review before anything is approved. The firm chooses who may approve.
- Approved invoice data is designed to be sent to Docnez. Docnez generates and delivers the invoice. Payment status in JURINEZ mirrors Docnez.
- Time and expenses included in an approved invoice are locked. A later change is a credit or a write-off, with an audit trail.
- Tax settings are configured per firm. Nothing is hardcoded.
Invoicing through Docnez is not legal trust accounting and is not a substitute for it. Trust obligations remain the firm’s, under the rules of the relevant law society, in a proper trust accounting system.
Client portal
An invitation-only place where a client sees what the firm has chosen to share, and nothing else.
- Invitation, email verification, and multi-factor authentication the firm can require.
- Matter updates the firm publishes, and documents the firm explicitly shares.
- Client uploads, which follow the same scan-before-use path as staff uploads.
- Signature requests, invoice status, and payment links where Docnez provides them.
- Appointment requests and messages with the matter team.
- Notifications that do not put confidential content in the email body.
- Internal notes, internal tasks, conflict checks, unreviewed AI output and other clients’ files are not part of the portal.
E-signatures via Docnez or DocuSign
Request a signature from a matter document. Docnez is the default. A firm may connect its own DocuSign account instead.
- The firm sets a default provider. A request can override that default.
- Signatories can be chosen from client contacts or entered for that request, in a sequential or parallel order where the provider supports it.
- Status is tracked in one model — draft, sent, viewed, partially signed, completed, declined, expired, cancelled or error — and each request records which provider handled it.
- The completed document and the certificate of completion are stored back on the matter, and the activity log records the steps.
- Only a firm owner or firm administrator can connect or disconnect a provider.
- A DocuSign connection is designed to use DocuSign’s own sign-in. JURINEZ is designed not to collect or store DocuSign passwords.
